When you're speaking with a character or dealing with a problem, you need to think about the repercussions of your decisions, as they can be far-reaching, and adverse at times as well. In a game like this, the choices you make are permanent, and have lasting effects. One of the best ways to get Codex entries is to talk to various characters and learn more about the world using the Investigate subjects, which will give you little jolts of XP that really do add up over time. Unlike the other two Mass Effect games, in Mass Effect 1 getting Codex entries will often get you a small amount of XP. Get as Much Information from People as Possible Some subtitles will appear for the last line of dialogue your conversation partner has said, even if you have them turned off.
